YVES SAINT LAURENT

THE BEGINNING OF THE BRAND

In 1961, Pierre Bergé, American businessman Yves Saint Laurent and Mush Yves Saint Laurent founded the haute couture maison "Yves Saint Laurent".

ABOUT YVES SAINT LAURENT

Founder Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent (Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent). Born in 1936 in Oran, a port city in Algeria. He grew up in a wealthy family because his father owned a movie theater chain. With the support of her mother, she entered a school run by the Paris Haute Couture Union at the age of 17. At the end of the 3-month course, I applied for a design competition sponsored by the IWS (International Wool Secretariat). He announced a cocktail dress here and won the highest award in the dress category. (At this time, the winner of the court category was Karl Lagerfeld.

In 1954, he was welcomed by Christian Dior after winning a prize in the competition. In 1957, Christian Dior died. At the age of 21, he became the successor designer due to Dior's will. In 1983, he announced "Trapase Line" in his first collection in Paris after the death of Christian Dior. This collection has won the Neiman Marcus Award and has been well received. Subsequent hobble skirts (skirts with extremely narrow hem width) and street-like style called "beat line" of 60A / W are not popular because they lack elegance. Dior was dismissed after being drafted into the Algerian War in 1960. After his discharge, Dior's designer post was appointed by his brother Marc Bohan.

In 1961, he established the haute couture maison "Yves Saint Laurent" in collaboration with Pierre Bergé, who has a proven track record in public relations, and Mack Robinson, an American businessman. The new mode expressed by Yves Saint Laurent is well received.

Since then, he has announced new styles of elegance that represent the 1960s, such as the Mondrian look. In 1966, opened a boutique of "Yves Saint Laurent" ready-to-wear line "Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche" on the left bank in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. In the latter half of the 1960s, he released long boots up to the thigh, safari look, see-through dress, pop art dress, military look, pantalon suit, and so on.

One of the most famous of Yves Saint Laurent is the 1966 Smoking-Tuxedo. Arranging men's black ties, women's suits are born. In the '70s, he released Cossack look and folklore style designs. In both name and reality, he became known as the Emperor of Mode. In 1985, received the Order of Regyon Donour. Received the De Doll Award in 1993.

In 1993, Sanofi Beaute acquired Yves Saint Laurent. In 1997, Hedi Slimane was appointed as the artistic director of the men's line "Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Homme". In 1998, announced the jeans line "Saint Laurent". Sriman was also in charge of the jeans line. From 1999 A / W, the ladies' line "Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche" will be entrusted to Alber Elbaz, and Saint Laurent himself will concentrate on haute couture only.

In 1999, François Pinault, owner of Pinault Printemps Redoubt (now Kering), acquired Sanofi through the Holdings Company. "Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche" and the perfume and haute couture divisions belong to the PPR (now Kering) group. Following the acquisition of Yves Saint Laurent by Gucci, Tom Ford was appointed as the designer of Rive Gauche from 2001 S / S.

Saint Laurent himself finally retired from the Paris Haute Couture collection on January 22, 2002. Then, the haute couture division was closed, and after that, the brand will be developed only by Rive Gauche. Tom Ford resigned in November 2003. Stefano Pilati, who traveled with Alber Elbaz, Armani and Prada, took over as his successor and was active until 2012.

In 2007, Mush Yves Saint Laurent received the Legion of Honor Grant Fissier from French President Nicolas Sarkozy for his many years of achievement. Mush Yves Saint Laurent dies on June 1, 2008. The world missed the death of a fashion designer who left great achievements.

In 2012, Hedi Slimane became the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent. Renamed the fashion department brand name to "Saint Laurent".

In 2016, Hedi Slimane retired as Creative & Image Director. Anthony Vaccarello, who was active in Versace, became the creative director.
