PARTS OF FOUR: A COHESIVE MAGICAL MICROCOSM

Parts of four: combining industrial design, decoration and spatial architectural forms into a cohesive magical microcosm.

By Victor Sajenko

Without a doubt, the business card of Parts of 4 is their jewelry. Pieces are created in a charming mix of such styles as rustic, loft, industrial, which is absolutely incomprehensible for classical jewelry. According to Evan Sugerman, Parts of 4 represents a rethinking of the newly “invented” modern jewelry with a complete disregard for traditional trends based mainly on seasonal fashion. For him, this project was a manifestation of the practice of slow design, a more conscious philosophical approach considering that repetition and small changes are key to organic evolution, so here, each new collection is a reflection of the previous, multi-layered and re-designed. Evan compares his creative process to the processes of synthesis, stratification, combining, filtering, rebuilding and retuning. Thanks to the constant retrhinking of errors and successes of the past, new ideas are generated in his mind.

The artifacts of Parts of Four are remarkably authentic, bold, brutal, rude in texture and are often simply huge in size, one hundred percent of which seems completely impossible to wear in everyday's life. But art, in fact, does not have to have utilitarian functions, in this case the element of originality dominates, therefore the brand has a lot of fans.

The materials used in the production are very diverse: metal (bronze, silver, gold), solid wood, leather, bone, corals, crystals of natural stones, such as tourmaline, amethyst or rock crystals. Sugerman believes that natural materials keep history, energy, form a connection between the human body and the natural landscape of the planet, from which, in fact, everything around us is created. They play a role in triggering memory and stimulating our senses, as well as becoming part of our own history.

In general, the Parts of Four project is an attempt to combine industrial design, decoration and spatial architectural forms into a cohesive magical microcosm. We think they succeeded.
