In a new beauty campaign from Dior, Natalie Portman ravishes in red. For the Spring 2021 celebration of Dior's famous Rouge lipstick, Artistic Directors Robert Lussier and Mia Forsgren of The Design Council balance pop sensibility and haute couture clout.

The campaign takes a pleasant note of inspiration from the popular 1985 Prince hit "Raspberry Beret," which makes up the soundtrack of the short film. In a beret that suits the hue of her Dior lipstick exactly, Portman poses. Across all the other artifacts we see, the cheerful hue is replicated, unifying this world into a vivid and singular symbol of beauty.

In a series of studio portraits, Indez and Vinoodh capture Portman in the photography component of the campaign. She is wearing only her beret and a matching pair of gloves, continuing to echo the lyrics of the Prince album. It feels vital that Portman is playfully sexy in the topless images, but not sexualized. She remains in charge of her image.

In fashion, there are few high-level creative companies who can create both beauty and fashion campaigns, so we really enjoy seeing the work of The Style Council.

They created a campaign here that effectively balances visual marketing pop with a sense of couture sophistication that a house such as Dior can be proud of.
