This time last December, in Miami Beach, Kim Jones gathered many fans from around the fashion and art worlds. His Dior Men presentation, complete with a walk-through of the new Rubell Museum, was a Basel-adjacent affair. The pandemic scuttled plans to stage a show for Jones' latest outing in Beijing; instead there was a livestreamed video and a screening party at the Phoenix International Media Center in the area, but this set is just as ambitious in any other way as that pre-COVID occasion.

This year, companies throughout New York City were shut down by the coronavirus epidemic. Even, there was a queue outside SoHo's Dior Men store on even the quietest days of the summer. Jones has a phenomenon on his hands; in Los Angeles and other areas, there are comparable lines. "People like to feel part of a gang, but now it's much more global because of social media," he said on a Zoom call. The global enthusiasm is fueled by these off-season collections.

Jones announced a vibrant partnership last year with the streetwear OG, Shawn Stussy. He tapped Kenny Scharf this season, an American artist who along with his friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, emerged from the East Village scene of the 1980s, creating street art. You see young children being excited by the work of Kenny Scharf, the fun and the excitement of the moment. It speaks through centuries,' said Jones.
