Wrinkled hoodies, body-swallowing coats and even the dreaded toe shoes.

The runway shows of Balenciaga are almost as headline-worthy as the garments, which is still spreadheaded by lightning rod creative Demna Gvasalia. Spring 2021 is a kind of reset point, however, a deceptively simple seasonal lookbook has been released by the socially remote Balenciaga squad, which helps to underline the quirky garments.

Crafted to mimic the line sheet of a customer — down to the composition of fabrics and model numbers — the lookbook provides a fairly unmitigated look at the latest products from the luxury house, which are especially playful in this go-round. While Gvasalia insisted that the collection is "an experiment to prove you don't always need the latest," there are plenty of pieces that illustrate the surefootedness of the Balenciaga design team with its distinctive styling approach.

Classic Balenciaga items, including oversized sweaters, hoodies and graphic tees, return with new prints and branding, and some familiar silhouettes, such as car coats, cocoon shirts and slouchy jeans, are smoothly tweaked and elevated with revised cuts, patterns and manufacturing (regenerative, Earth-friendly lyocell is used for one coat). Its soft mule (read: logo-laden slippers) returns alongside new styles of footwear such as the surely divisive Toe Sneakers and Molded Thong Sneakers, which seem to repurpose the popular Speed Trainer's sole.

Check the new looks from Balenciaga below, both menswear and womenswear, and expect the company to create another runway show later this year.

The new Rick Owens (potentially first even) digital show has just been published on Paris Fashion Week's official website, featuring the designer himself and his muse-model Tyrone Dylan trying on garments of the new season on the latter. There are only two of them at the showroom, listening to classical music, the video goes mostly in black and white sometimes adding some color footage. You can check the video here. Stay tuned, we will be publishing the images of this new collection very soon!
