ALEXANDER MCQUEEN COLLABORATES WITH ARTHOUSE FILMMAKER JONATHAN GLAZER FOR SS21

After runway shows were made difficult by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Spring/Summer 2021 season has seen fashion designers reaching for new ways to display their collections. We've seen everything from live broadcasts to video games as a result.

With a short film to highlight its SS21 collection, Alexander McQueen has now launched their own contribution to the season. The film was created together with the British filmmaker Jonathan Glazer, best known for his 2013 arthouse horror Under the Skin.

Titled First Light, the abstract film features a host of models mudlarking at dawn across the banks of the River Thames. The menswear presented mainly cleaves to the codes that creative director Sarah Burton has established at the brand: leather jackets, trench coats, and heavily spliced-together tailoring elements.

The work of Glazer has become a recurring reference point for fashion designers, especially Under the Skin, which featured Scarlett Johansson as a man-consuming alien. The film's score was used by Raf Simons to soundtrack two of his shows for SS20 and SS15.

Alexander McQueen x Jonathan Glazer

In other news, Kenzo x Kansai Yamamoto collaboration. This campaign is youthful and knows what young people are looking for.
